Yvonne M. Amundson

Marcelline Yvonne Amundson, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Bottineau, ND, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, surrounded by family at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center in West Fargo, ND after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Yvonne was born on the family farm on May 7, 1928 to Albert and Alida (Hoffas) Larson. She was the second child of thirteen and was raised on the family farm in the Turtle Mountains. She attended country school in the Turtle Mountains and furthered her education in Bottineau, ND and Hillcrest Academy in Fergus Falls, MN. She received her teaching certificate in 1948 and taught at various country schools in the Turtle Mountains.

On June 7, 1949, Yvonne married Myron Amundson at Salem Lutheran Church. They farmed for many years in the Turtle Mountains and raised four children. Yvonne was also employed at the ASCS office in Bottineau, ND and retired in 1990 after 28 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #42, and was proud of the military service that her husband, three sons, one grandson, three brothers and her father-in-law gave to their country.

Yvonne and Myron loved to travel and when they retired they bought a motor home and spent winters in the south and summers back home in the Midwest. Myron and Yvonne moved to Fargo, ND in 2005 to be close to family.

Yvonne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. What she cared about most was spending time together and making memories with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was kind, loving, generous, and always had a smile on her face and a hug to give. She was a great cook and baker and we will always remember her amazing homemade caramel rolls, bread, lefse, rhubarb sauce and others too numerous to mention. The precious memories of her will forever be cherished by her family and all who knew her, especially her nurturing love and hugs, humor and her beautiful smile.

Yvonne is survived by her husband Myron, son Dean (Linda) Amundson, Aitkin, MN; son Donovan (Dawn) Amundson, Tower City, ND; son Kevin (Michelle) Amundson, Prior Lake, MN; and a daughter Delene (Todd) Gunderson, Moorhead, MN; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild as follows: Angie (Simon) Reff and sons Isaiah, Joseph and Micah (Minneapolis, MN); Melissa (Joshua) Lego and son Elias and daughter Madelyn (Richfield, MN); Brenda (Craig) Deuth and daughter Amelia and son Craig (Buddy) (New Market, MN); Chris and fiancé Sarah Anderson (White Bear Lake, MN); Donovan Amundson, Jr., and daughter JanDell (Ben) Joseph and son Caden (Clarksville, TN); Kjersten (Ross) Huebner and daughter Ruby and sons Benny and Brooks (Grand Forks, ND); Katie Amundson and son Chase and daughter Ella (Grand Forks, ND); Janna (Scott) Kohler and daughter Quinn and son Braydon (Tower City, ND); Brittany Feickert (Fargo, ND); Zachary Feickert (Shasta, CA); Jenessa and Andrew Amundson (St. Paul, MN); Erik and Leah Amundson (Prior Lake, MN); Lindsay (Mitch) Noltimier and daughters Lillian, Olivia and Claire (Humble, TX); and Ben Gunderson (New York City, NY).

She is also survived by brothers Audrin (Marlyce) Larson;, Bottineau, ND; Lowell (Eleanore) Larson, Artesia, NM; Elmon (Karen) Larson, Omaha, NE; Timothy (Mariole) Larson, Overland Park, KS; Matthew (Peggy) Larson, Bottineau, ND; sisters Sharon Wolfe, Fargo, ND; Theresa (Arlan) Nelson, Souris, ND; Paulette Efimenko, Dunseith, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold Larson and David Larson and sisters Carol Long and Mavis Sutter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Yvonne on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Lakeside Christian Center, Lake Metigoshe, ND, with a fellowship gathering at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at the ND Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
