Winifred Christianson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 27th, 2021 while residing at Edgewood Assisted Living in Fargo. She had recently turned 95.
Winifred Marilyn Chambers was born on May 9th, 1926, in Grafton, ND to Roy and Blanche (Forbes) Chambers. She grew up on the family farm near Crystal, ND, with her parents, brother and sister. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in 1945 for one year before marrying her beloved Mayo in 1946. They lived in Bismarck where they had 3 of their 5 children - 2 boys and a girl - before moving to Fargo in 1957. Later, twins were born - two girls, and their family was complete. They resided in Fargo the remainder of their years, traveling extensively and spending summers at Lake McDonald near Dent, MN and winters in Sun City West, AZ.
They became members of First Presbyterian Church where Winifred was active in circle and ladies bible studies. She was also a member of PEO.
Winifred was very proud of her Scottish heritage, presenting her family plaid at the Kirkin' o' the Tartan at First Presbyterian for many years. She was a cunning card player and loved many games, but bridge was her favorite. She participated in many bridge clubs over the years and loved the challenge of the game.
Winifred was the quintessential hostess - always ready and excited to accept guests. She was an amazing cook and her baked goods were second to none! But her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
Winifred is survived by her children: Ted (Linda) Christianson, Mitchell, SD; Forrest Christianson, Denver, CO; Melody (Jeff) Bober, Frazee, MN; Heidi (Todd) Grages, Waterloo, NE; Heather (Paul) Sorum, Fargo, ND; a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Hulda Chambers, Aitkin, MN; and a sister, Connie Kotchman, Bismarck, ND
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayo Christianson and great-grandson, Mayo Roy Sorum.
Winifred's celebration of life will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home on Saturday, June 5th at 11:00am
