William "Bill" Jacob Nygaard

William “Bill” Nygaard, 90, of Fargo, ND, died June 30, 2013 at Sheyenne Crossings Assisted Living in West Fargo.

William Jacob Nygaard was born December 19, 1922 to George William and Rose Nellie (Dotson) Nygaard in Woodworth, ND. Bill served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, and later remained active in the National Air Guard. He married Marilyn Elaine Lybeck, of Jesse, ND, on December 20, 1946. Together they raised their four children in Fargo.

Elaine taught English until the children came along, at which point she stayed home to raise them. She worked at Dayton’s in Fargo for many years, was an avid reader, and loved to socialize. Elaine died July 2, 2010 in Fargo, ND.

Bill worked at Standard Oil for 40 years, and following his retirement worked at Edgewood Golf Course and Lunde car dealership.

Bill and Elaine were married for over 60 years, and were lifelong members of Hope Lutheran Church.

Bill is survived by children, Ruth (Jon) Parks, Reedsport, OR; William Jr. (Molina) Nygaard, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Scott Nygaard, Seattle, WA; brother, R.E. “Gene” (Aggie) Nygaard, West Fargo, ND; sisters, Florence Wieber, Surprise, AZ; Hazel Campbell, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Tod Parks, Corey Parks, Keri Johnson, Nikhil Nygaard; three great-grandchild; and one great great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his son Thomas of Fargo (4/3/2013); brothers, Charles, John, George, and Gordon; sisters, Gladys, Ruth, and Geri.
