William Meyer

Will passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Moorhead, MN at the age of 80. William Nicholas Meyer was born on May 3, 1930 in Rugby, North Dakota, the son of William (Bill) Sr., and Myrtle (Dokken) Meyer. Will was baptized into the First Lutheran Church in Rugby on September 20, 1930. Will was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Cynthia Volk on October 12, 1948. They made their home in the Rugby area where they began raising their five children. The family later moved to Fargo, ND, where they lived for many years. Betty passed away on October 29, 1994. Will lived in the F-M area until he moved into assisted living in Pelican Rapids, MN, in 2008. He later moved into the Golden Living Nursing Center in June 2010. Will was an avid hunter and spent many years hunting and fishing with family and friends. Will proudly served in the Korean War from 1950-1953 and was an active member of the VFW and American Legion. Dad will be lovingly remembered for all the camping and hunting trips he took with all of his kids. Each of his kids can fondly recall trips to the lakes or a hunting trip to North Dakota. Dad’s love of the outdoors has instilled a love of nature and all creatures in his children. Will was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, William and Myrtle Meyer; and one grandson, Jason Meyer. He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Mavis) Meyer; his sisters, Delores Vangsnes, Joyce Scott and Dorothy Miller; his children, Bill (Carol) Meyer; Jerry (Rhonda) Meyer; Bonnie (Gerry) Henry; Marla Henry and Randy (Tammy) Meyer; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
