William "Bill" Powell passed away peacefully in his home September 1, 2016 in Fargo, North Dakota. He was 90 years old.
William leaves behind a legacy of Outdoor enthusiast, and will be remembered as one of the best outdoor wildlife framers in the region. He will always be cherished as a great story teller and historian along with a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to those surviving him. He will be forever missed. William was born in Fargo ND to George N. Powell and Anna Mae (Shaw) Powell and grew up in the Fargo area, where he attended Fargo Central High School. He was active in areas, which included being a member of the swim team. He was an avid hunter and outdoor advocate. After high school, William followed his family footsteps into military service. He became a member of the Army Air Corps and eventually became a gunner on a B-24 Bomber. He was activated overseas to Italy during World War II. His unit was returned to New York where William was suspended due to the Sole Survivor Policy, where he learned of his father and brother giving the ultimate sacrifice during combat. He was very pro-military and it was a very important part of his life. Upon his return from military service, William married Dorothy (Tripp) in October of 1945. They made their home and began raising their family in Fargo ND. William worked as a mail carrier for the railroad and traveled the State of North Dakota. He spent his mid to later life in the construction field and mastering the carpentry craft. When he retired, he dedicated his time to building artwork frames and volunteering time with outdoor groups along with passing on the hunting heritage to his grandchildren and many others.
William was preceded in death by his father George Newell Powell, mother Anna Mae Shaw Powell, brothers John and George Powell and Sister Ruth Powell Larson and Dorothy Powell.
He is survived by a brother Donald Powell, 3 sons, Guy (Sue) Fargo ND, Jeffrey (LaVonna) Fargo ND, John (Ruth) East Grand Forks MN, 2 daughters, Rebecca, Shingletown, CA, Amy (Mark) Sahli, West Fargo ND, 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
