Wilbur K. Michelson, 85, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Wilbur Kenneth Michelson was born October 5, 1924, in Mandan, North Dakota, to Floyd and Matilda Helm Michelson. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1942. Wilbur entered the Navy in 1944 and served in the Marshall Islands. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1950, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Wilbur worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department until 1954, when he went to work for the City of Fargo. He was appointed Fargo City Engineer in 1970 and in 1985, was also named Director of Public Works. He married Shirley Neset of Wellsburg, North Dakota, in 1952. Together, they enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin, boating, golfing, swimming and water skiing. Wilbur is survived by his wife, Shirley, Fargo, ND; daughter, Linda Michelson, Rapid City, SD; son, Kenneth (Linda Kvale-Michelson) Michelson, Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, Kayla, Greg and Lucas Michelson, all of Moorhead, MN; one step-grandson, Jared Kvale, Fargo, ND; brother, Roger Michelson, Billings, MT; sister, Sharon (Eric) Spurrell, Richmond, VA; four nieces, one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gary Michelson of Fargo. Funeral Service: Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 2:00 PM, at Hope Lutheran Church – North Campus, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, November 18, 2009, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
