Wayne W. Owens, 94, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at MeritCare, Fargo, ND. Wayne W. Owens was born May 24, 1913 in Suffield, Alberta, Canada, to Thomas and Jennie (Jones) Owens. He attended schools in Canada and the family moved to the United States in 1923. After graduating from Englevale high school, he attended NDSU from 1931 to 1935 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He continued his education at NDSU earning a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1941. He worked as a high school teacher in various North Dakota communities from 1935 to 1939. He worked for NDSU Agricultural Extension beginning in 1946, retiring April 1, 1972. Wayne married Charlotte Larson on July 2, 1940 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Wayne entered the United States Army in March 1942 and served until July 1946. He was the Past Exalted Ruler and life member of Devils Lake Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and past President of North Dakota County Agents Association. He received the Distinguished Service Award for National County Agents Association and the Meritorious Service Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi. Wayne is survived by his wife, Charlotte; children, Thomas (Meredith), Grand Forks, ND; Richard (Barbara), Bismarck, ND; Charlayne (Howard) Myers, Minneapolis, MN; and Stelamaris Coser, Brazilian foreign exchange daughter; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; six nieces; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Forrest and Greydon; sisters Irene and Doreen. Funeral service: Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 10:00AM at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 5-7PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
