Warren Opperman died on November 6, 2022 at Touchmark at Harwood Groves in Fargo, ND.

Warren was born on August 7, 1926, in Fargo, North Dakota, the only child of Daniel and Louise Opperman. He attended Horace Mann Elementary School and graduated from Fargo Central High School. Immediately after graduation, Warren joined the Navy and served in World War II. He was the last surviving member of the original crew ("plank owner") of the USS Fred T. Berry. He loved to reminisce about his navy days. After the war, he graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College. A Theta Chi fraternity friend remembered Warren as the best left-handed softball pitcher ever. Warren married Marjorie (Marge) Sebens on September 1, 1950. Warren's career was in lumber sales, first in Bismarck, next with Masonite Corporation in Billings, and then home to Fargo in 1959 to partner with his father in Opperman Lumber Sales.

Warren loved to play cribbage and was a great fan of Twins baseball and Bison football. He loved gardening, meeting new people, and traveling to state capitols with Marge. In years long past, he loved hunting and fishing with friends and family. In more recent years, he kept himself active by caring for his yard and garden at his home and the lake and shoveling snow in winter. The grandchildren have fond memories of Grandpa's Saturday morning bacon and eggs and his tradition of setting up a 1950s-era miniature train set around the Christmas tree. We all remember him for his playful sense of humor.

Warren showed his care for others in his service as a Shriner over six decades. He served in leadership, arranged transportation to various Shriners Hospitals for families, and was honored as "the workhorse" of El Zagal Shrine. Warren was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he served in many ways through the years. Lately, he loved helping with the food pantry the most.

Warren is survived by his four sons and spouses, Paul (Suzanne), David (Andrea), Gary (Kay), and Jay (Tiffany); seven grandchildren, Luke, Philip, Caitlin, Patrick, Elizabeth, Daniel, and Katherine; and one great-granddaughter, Isabel. Warren is preceded in death by his parents and his spouse (and his childhood cocker spaniel, Skippy).

The family is grateful for the loving care he received while residing at Touchmark and under the care of hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
