Walter Schielke

Walter R Schielke passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021, at Bethany Memory Care Center in Fargo ND. He was born July 9,1929 on a farm north of Windsor, ND to Lyda and Oswald Schielke. He attended Windsor School through eighth grade and continued to farm with his dad. In 1949 he married Virginia Gehlert. He loved farming and was big on John Deere machinery. They continued farming until 1982, then moved to Bismarck ND. In 2010 he and Virginia moved to Fargo, ND where they have family.

Walt was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant, turkey, geese, and ducks. He loved to play cards, bowl, and fish. He enjoyed spending some winters in south Texas with his sons. He loved meeting people and finding new friends. In 2019, he moved to Bethany Assisted Living in Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his grandson Shane, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and his parents.

He leaves behind six children, Eileen (Dan) Calkins, Fargo, ND, Barbara (Jim) Swank, Fargo, ND, Stephen Schielke, Rapid City, SD, Rebecca Hall, West Fargo, ND, Matthew (Cecelia) Schielke, San Antonio, TX, James (Debbie) Schielke, Friendswood, TX, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. He has 3 living siblings: Elsie Robyt, Jamestown, ND, Erna Kable, Park Rapids, MN, and Shirley Quesnal, Cedar, MN.

A private service will be held by family in January, and a celebration of life will be held this spring or summer.
