Wally Woell, 90, of West Fargo, ND, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND. Wallace Vernon Woell was born February 5, 1921 in Clifford, ND to Otto and Lillian (Johnson) Woell. He attended school in Clifford. In 1948, he completed Flight Proficiency and was appointed to the Civil Air Patrol, of which he was a member for many years and owned his own planes. Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the lakes, and held various jobs in Clifford. He married Viola Anderson, and together they formed Woell Painting & Sandblasting. They traveled the tri-state area and western half of the United States for their work. Wallace and Viola retired in the mid-1980’s. After they retired, they spent their winters in Florida, Texas, and California. They loved to fish and had many “tall tales”. Wally’s true passion was “gadgets” and fixing things. After Viola’s death in 2001, he lived alone with his dog, Smokey. Wally is survived by two brothers, William Woell, Fargo, ND; Harris Woell, Mayville, ND; daughters, Darlene (Karl) Schlecht, Pelican Rapids, MN; Dianne Stanley, San Antonio, TX; son, Larry Thorstad, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Debbie (Jeff) Flisk (his caretakers), Char (Brian) Blumer, Darrell (Janet) Velline, Jon (Kathy) Holman, Deana Velline, Sher Holman, Jerry Stanley, Tony Stanley, Donald Hurst, Carol Mahoney, Kristi Kelly; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and daughter, Kathryn Sigurdson. Funeral Service: 3:00PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral service. Burial: Clifford Cemetery, Clifford, ND.
