Vivian Joyce Dahl

Vivian Joyce Dahl, 91, died peacefully at Bethany Homes on South University October 20, 2017.

She was born April 10, 1926 to Noble and Doris Ekstrand of Moorhead. Vivian had one younger sister, Lila, who preceded her in death. Vivian graduated from Moorhead High School in 1943 and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Vivian married Wallace Dahl on November 20, 1948. They made their home in Fargo. Viv and Wally were wonderful partners in life as well as in their business, Dahl Honey, which they started and ran together. Vivian and Wallace had one son, Deacon and Dr. Bruce (Terri) Dahl. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.

Vivian was widowed at the age of 57 when her husband died of cancer. She remained close to her brother and sisters-in-law and their families and enjoyed Dahl family get-togethers, dinners, and evenings spent playing cards.

Vivian was a wonderful grandma to her four grandchildren: Melissa (Michael) Flaherty, Drs. Benjamin (Lindsey) Dahl, Dr. Daniel (Mariko) Dahl, and Dr. Jonathan (Elizabeth) Dahl. She lived just a few blocks away and her grandkids loved going over to Grandma’s house. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Joseph, Molly, Caleb, Charlie, Brielle, Nicholas, Henry, Patrick, Samuel, Vivian, and Alfred.
Vivian was loved by her family and friends, was a great cook and enjoyed having friends and family over for meals. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. Vivian was a very generous, humble, faith filled, loving, and gentle woman. She was a wonderful role model to family.

Vivian had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and she attributed that faith in allowing her to remain at peace after the death of her beloved husband. In her own humble way, she devoted her life to caring for others. She did much, not only for her family, but gave her time, treasure and talents to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the YWCA, Great Plains Food Bank, and Prairie Public Television.

Vivian will be missed by those who knew her and especially by her family.
