Vivian Jean Gerrard Acuff, Mesa AZ, formerly Fargo passed away September 5, 2020 at the age of 85 from Covid-19.
Vivian was born on April 26, 1935 in Sarles, ND. She moved to Bisbee, ND at the age of 5 and attended school there, graduating in 1953. Vivian then moved to Fargo. She married Lester Engelke December 12th and together they raised 6 children near Kragnes, MN.
She worked at NDSU in the Plant Pathology Dept from 1968-1972. She then began a rewarding career with IBM in Fargo. She married Jesse Acuff in 1974. In 1980 she transferred to Denver retiring in 1992, returning to Fargo in 1994.
She was an active member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and held many positions in the FM area Music Club and the ND Federation of Music Clubs. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo where she sang in the Cathedral Choir. She was a member of the Silver Follies while living in Fargo. Vivian also loved to attend the symphony and opera. She worked for Hallmark Corp from 1999-2015, at which time she moved to Mesa.
She is survived by her 6 children; Mary Jean (Dave) Richardson, Pelican Rapids, MN; Jeffrey (Beth Wiley) Engelke, O’Fallon, MO; Michael (Jan) Engelke, Dilworth, MN; Patti (Patrick) Schmaltz, Mesa, AZ; Paula Phipps, Mesa, AZ; Tim (Janet) Engelke, Nampa, ID; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; Kari (Chris) Sweeney, Matthew & Josh; Jake(Missie)Nelson, Caden, Jaxon and Thea; Justin (Cathryn) Schmaltz, Lyla, Mila,and Patrick; Cassandra (Brad) King, Katelyn, Kiersten; Phillip (Jami) Hanson, Luke, Mark and Ellie; Kris Richardson; Nicole (Bill) Schlosser, Hailey, Joseph, Noah and Ethan; Natalie (Brandon) Rauen, Clara and Brady. One sister Janet Spaeth, Devils Lake, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Howard and Kenneth and son-in-law Bill Phipps.
Visitation will be held Monday September 14th from 4-7 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. At Vivian’s request, no funeral service will be held. A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
