Virginia Hanson, 101, Fargo, ND died June 6, 2014 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
Virginia Lee Brown was born at 2 pounds on February 10, 1913 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Clarence and Ella Brown. She was a dancer and performer in New York City and Philadelphia with her mother when she was a teenager. In her twenties, she started working for Whitman’s Candy in Philadelphia as a candy coater. She married Einar Hanson on November 28, 1954 and then moved to Dickinson, ND to begin her life on the farm. Einar and Virginia had one son together, Thomas, then they moved back to New York to be with her family. After he was born, they returned to the farm where she would then stay in North Dakota the rest of her life.
Virginia enjoyed working on the farm and taking care of the animals. She loved dogs and feeding the birds by her apartment in North Fargo. She attended church at Temple Baptist regularly and spoke very lovingly of her church family. Virginia had a very strong faith and she believed that we will all be together again in a better place. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she took joy in listening to them laugh and play. Virginia will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Karen Hanson, granddaughter, Kari (Marty) Dahlen, grandsons, Tom Swanson and Walter Offen, great-grandchildren, August and Edison Dahlen. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Leon Brown and her husband, Einar Hanson.
