Virgil Ivan Jasch, 94, passed away on August 31, 2018 at the Sheyenne Crossing Care Center in West Fargo, ND. He was born January 25, 1924 to Ernest and Emma (Boehmer) Jasch in Crookston, MN and grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN.
He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in May 1941, attended Interstate Business School and joined the Navy. He served from January 1943 to May 1946, much of this time onboard the carrier USS Midway. After leaving the Navy, Virgil worked for the Interstate Commerce Commission of the Federal Government until his retirement in 1980.
While enjoying an evening of roller skating in Fargo, Virgil met a beautiful young woman by the name of Margie Stenberg. They married on July 22, 1950 in Horace, ND. They made their home in Fargo.
Virgil was a member of Grace Lutheran Church from the early 1950’s, enjoyed traveling, especially to Nashville, and spending time in his garden with his raspberries and other fruit trees. After retirement, he spent many hours at the local library computer doing research to reconnect with his shipmates from the USS Midway. He was successful & communicated with many of them.
He is survived by his son Keith (Wanda) Jasch, Plymouth MN; sister, Glady Wilke of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Jasch, Farmington, ME; two granddaughters, Kimberly (Adam) Urness, Louisville, CO; Anna (Elvin Ventura) Jasch, Brooklyn, NY; and great granddaughter Valentina Ventura.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie; his son, Rev. Stephen Jasch, infant daughter Nancy Kay Jasch, brothers Orville Jasch and Donald Jasch of Detroit Lakes, MN; sisters Rose McCann of Denver, CO and Cerilda Ellis of Kalispell, MT.
