Vicki Lynn Cumber, 70, of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Essentia hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Vicki was born March 14, 1952, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Norman and Vivian (Perlenfein) Nelson. She graduated from Fargo South High School in 1970. Shortly after, she received her beauty license from Josef’s School of Hair Design.
Vicki met Gary Cumber in January 1975 and was married by November 1976. They moved to rural Harwood, ND, where Vicki was a stay-at-home mom to their three children: Katie, April, and James. Once her children were in high school, she opened her own beauty salon in West Fargo, ND, named Hair Classics. She had many clients who adored her and her wonderful personality. She retired around 2018 but continued her beauty services until her death.
Vicki and Gary were motorcycle tourists, having visited many places with family and friends. She loved to play all games. Her favorite was “marbles,” using an old game board her father made. She was wildly competitive but was never a sore loser. It always made for a hilarious afternoon. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, quilting, baking, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be missed by many.
Vicki is survived by her daughters, Katie (Matt) Chaussee, April (Michael) Scott, Fargo, ND; son James Cumber, Kulm, ND; grandchildren, Evan and Vivian Chaussee; sisters, Norma Jean (David) Voxland, Eugene, OR; and Sharon Thompson, Moorhead, MN; She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; father, Norman; and mother, Vivian.
