Valborg “Val” Linnea (Holmstrom) Plambeck died July 31, 2019, at age 93, following a head injury suffered in a fall in her home. A daughter of Swedish immigrants, Val was born in Omaha, NE, on December 5, 1925. She grew up in Omaha, graduated from Tech and took a job as a secretary with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On May 2, 1948, Val married Lyle W. Plambeck. She left the phone company in 1949 to take on her next job, making a home for her husband and four children. Actually, she made seven homes, as Lyle’s job took him and their growing family from South Sioux City, NE, to Fremont, NE, Omaha, NE, Lexington, NE (2 homes), Papillion, NE and finally, in 1958, to Fargo, ND. After raising her children, Val joined her husband, working at Tri-State Auto Auction from 1971 until her retirement in 1994.
Val enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards and other games. She particularly enjoyed small stakes gambling, especially penny slots and pull tabs. She was active in PTA, volunteered as a Den Mother in her sons’ Cub Scout Pack, and organized Project Clubs in Papillion and Fargo. She participated in league bowling, tried curling and was very active in El Zagal Shrine’s Auxiliary and the Honored Ladies. She was always very supportive of her husband’s and sons’ Scouting activities. But mostly she loved spending time with her family and being a wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.
Shortly after moving to Fargo, Val found Pastor Bud at Elim Lutheran Church and the family joined the congregation.
Val is survived by her sons, Stephen W. (Susan) Plambeck and Dan D. (Lori Jo) Plambeck, both of Fargo, ND, her daughter, Kristi Lynn (Randy) Jacobson, Green Valley, AZ, her daughter-in-law, Carma Jo Plambeck, Fargo, ND; her grandchildren: Brian (Megan) Jacobson, Holts Summit, MO, Michael W. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandy (Jim) Sadler, Martinsburg, WV and Sharon (Marvin) Blocker, Omaha, NE, her sister-in-law, Phyllis Holmstrom, Omaha, NE and by a great many, cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
