Todd Schmiess, 46, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 21, 2010, at home in Fargo. Todd was born July 4, 1964, in Oakes, North Dakota, son of Dennis and Mary (Monson) Schmiess. This is where he went to elementary school and graduated from high school in 1982. While growing up, he enjoyed life through his social interactions and sports. While in high school, he was active in basketball, football and golf. He graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Sociology and a minor in Philosophy. He also completed his peace officer training and served as a deputy in Pembina County. The past several years, he has been employed at Bank of the West in Fargo. Todd enjoyed reading and was an excellent writer. He loved spending holidays with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf and was an avid sports fan. The Oklahoma Sooners and the Boston Celtic were his entertainment. Todd is survived by his mother, Mary Schmiess, Fargo, ND; a brother, Barry (Deb) Schmiess, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Kori (Bill) Markovich, Crookston, MN; Becki (Brad) Woehl, Kindred, ND; three nieces, Katie, Brittany, Kelsie; foster sister, Fran Brummund; five nephews, Josh, Zach, Brady, Brenden and Brock, who he loved dearly; and his paternal grandmother, Jennie Schmiess. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis; his maternal grandparents; and his paternal grandfather. Visitation: Friday, September 24, 2010, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.
