Thomas Vangerud, 91, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.
Thomas Osbourne Vangerud was born on August 22, 1929 to Melvin and Thea (Bakke) Vangerud in Fargo, ND. His family lived on area farmsteads before moving to the Vangerud home farm. Tom completed first grade in Kindred, and the remaining grades at the rural Christiania School, Kindred, ND. He was confirmed at Christiania Lutheran Church. Tom graduated from Kindred High School in 1947. He attended NDSU where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Tom married June Hagen on May 26, 1951 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. They lived their life on the home farm where they raised their four children: Tim, Ellen, Sarah, and Ruth. They moved into Fargo, ND in 2012, and into Bethany on 42nd, Fargo, ND in 2019.
Tom spent several years farming. He also worked at local businesses before becoming the rural mail carrier out of the Kindred Post Office. He delivered mail to Kindred, Davenport, and Leonard areas for 28 years until he retired at the age of 78.
Tom is survived by his wife, June, and their four children: Tim (Judy) Vangerud, Fargo, ND; Ellen (Ron) lsta, Walcott, ND; Sarah (Vic) Chapman, Boise, ID; Ruth (Robert) Brass, Delmar, NY; grandchildren: Jennifer Vangerud, Fargo, ND; Todd (Amy) Vangerud, West Fargo, ND; Eric (Jennifer) lsta, Fargo, ND; Leah (Drew) LeClair, Fargo, ND; Bryan (Gina) Allen, Gilbert, AZ; Jared (Amy) Allen, Nashville, TN; Scot (Kelly) Allen, Boise, ID; Jacob Brass, Ethan Brass, Eli Brass, all Delmar, NY; 26 great-grandchildren: Logan and Kylee Vangerud; Elizabeth, William, and Charlie lsta; Ryan and Josie LeClair; Brayden Maczewski, Jonathan, Christian, Calvin, Samuel, Bella, Benjamin, Bryan Jr., Joseph Allen; Brinley and Lakelyn Allen; Kierslynn, Mia, SJ, Kherington, Emma, Harlow, Kamryn, and Ella Allen; one great-great-granddaughter, Sophia Allen; and sister, Joanne Sorbel.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Lucille Mosher; and brothers-in-law, Burdett Mosher and Duane Sorbel.
Private Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 5, 2021 and will be livestreamed at hansonrunsvold.com.
