Thomas M. Hall, 87, of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family. He was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Thomas Marsden Hall, the son of William and Grace (Marsden) Hall of Kelso, North Dakota, was born January 22, 1920, in St. John’s Hospital, Fargo. When he was three months old, the family moved to Elm River Township, two miles west of Hendrum, Minnesota. Tom attended the Elm River Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Hendrum High School in 1937. He attended North Dakota State University, Fargo. Tom married Helen Grothe in Hendrum, June 12, 1942. Two daughters were born to them, Kathryn and Debra. Tom farmed with his father, until William retired in 1964. Besides grain farming, Tom raised registered, prize-winning Duroc pigs. They continued to live on the home farm, until they retired in 1978. Tom and Helen moved to Fargo in 1982. Tom was very civic minded. He served several organizations including the North Dakota Livestock Sanitary Board in Bismarck. He supported the North Dakota Winter Shows in Valley City and was recognized for his contribution to the winter shows in 1981. He also served on the Norman County Fair Board in Ada, Minnesota, for several years. In 1968, he received the 4-H Alumni Award, a recognition from the State of Minnesota Extension Service. He also served on the board of the Hendrum Coop Elevator in Hendrum and was a Master in Alpha Lodge #230 Masonic Lodge in Hendrum. When they moved to Fargo, he delivered blood to various towns for the United Blood Services and served on the Fargo Senior Commission, also delivering senior meals in the area. He was an active member of the Kiwanis, Optimist Club, East Gate and Daylight Masonic Lodge and El Zagal Shrine Club of Fargo. Tom served as an elder in the Hendrum Presbyterian Church and on the council of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hendrum. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fargo. After Helen passed away January 26, 1999, Tom continued to live in north Fargo. On October 25, 2003, he married Mavis Holland-Storsved, at the Little Brown church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. Tom is survived by his wife, Mavis; daughters, Kathryn (James) Carpenter, Waverly, IA; Debra (Robert) Trousdale, Bloomington, MN; brother, Donald (Mildred) Hall, Fargo, ND; sister, Elizabeth (Sherwood) Berg, Brookings, SD; three grandchildren, John (Gina) Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter and Thomas Trousdale; two great-grandchildren, Derek and Chase Carpenter; three step-children, Vicki English, Brett and Douglas Storsved; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Helen, his wife of 56 years. A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held Monday, April 9, 2007, at 10:30 AM, at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a time of sharing memories and reception following the service. Inurnment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum, MN, at a later date. Memorials may be given in Tom’s honor to the Hospice of the Red River Valley, Shriners’s Children’s Hospital or First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND.
