Theresa Ann Miller passed away early in the morning on Saturday, March 22, 2025, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with colon cancer. She was surrounded by family and supported by Sanford Hospice.
Theresa will be remembered as a daughter, sister, friend, co-worker, and most importantly an awesome mom. She was immensely proud of and loved her sons Jacob and Zachary and new daughter-in-law Kristina. She spent her life taking care of others, which included sharing her amazing cooking and baking. She was known for her homemade soups, Special K bars (a/k/a scotcheroos), and coconut cream pie.
Theresa was born in Grand Forks, ND on September 4, 1962, to Ralph and Genevieve (Gen) Miller. She grew up outside the tiny town of Brocket, ND, attended elementary school in Brocket, and graduated high school in Lakota, ND. She earned a degree in industrial illustration from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). While at MSUM she met her lifelong friend Tara Pearson.
Theresa spent a few years in Florida and then returned to the area settling in Crookston, MN in 1994. She began a lengthy career with the State of Minnesota's Polk County Public Defender's Office as a legal secretary. She loved her job and continued to work remote throughout her illness. She celebrated 30 years with the Public Defender's office in 2025 and was "momma" to several of her co-workers.
She created special memories traveling with her family and girlfriends. Theresa enjoyed nature and loved being at the lake - on the dock, a pontoon, or in a kayak.
In Crookston, Theresa was an avid volunteer sewing costumes, making sets, cooking food, raising funds, or lending a hand with United Way, school, church and Jacob and Zach's events. She never missed any of their events - - - be it swimming meets, football games, wrestling matches, theatre productions, and so many others - - - no matter the weather conditions or the distance. She always made their birthdays extra special by serving them breakfast in bed. And she was a proud momma for the Mother/Son dance at Zach and Kristina's wedding on December 28, 2024.
She is survived by her sons Jacob and Zachary (Kristina), parents Ralph and Gen Miller, siblings Ralph Miller (Denise), Tammy Miller (Craig Palmer) and Lance Miller (Valerie), nephew Joe Miller (Kristin and children Hailey, Rafe and Evan) and niece Jeramie Peterson (Austin and children Oliva, Avery and Eveyln).
We are grateful for the doctors and nurses at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and the nurses from Sanford Hospice who cared for Theresa. Please consider donating to Sanford Hospice in memory of Theresa.
We hope Theresa is sitting by a big blue lake in heaven with grandparents and other relatives and friends, eating a juicy lobster tail, with drawn butter, that she talked about for the last three months!
Memorial Service: 10:30am, Thursday, March 27, 2025 at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND with a visitation one hour prior.
