Terry D. Soderberg, 62, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Moorhead, MN, on Monday, October 24, 2022, with his loving wife, Katie, at his side.

Terry Delano Soderberg was born June 28, 1960, to A. Delano and Eloise (Hettervig) Soderberg in Wichita, Kansas. While growing up, he lived in Texas, California, and Kansas before settling in Minot, North Dakota. He graduated from Minot High School with high honors in 1978 and attended the Wyoming Technical Institute, Laramie, Wyoming, graduating in 1979 with an Automotive Technician degree. He continued throughout the years to attain and maintain a Master Automobile Technician Certification through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

While Terry left us all way too soon, he led a very full and loving life filled with amazing friends and family. Being the son of an active duty Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force, the family moved several times during his formative years. He enjoyed playing Texas football, baseball, water skiing, and riding/racing motocross bikes. On May 28, 1975, Terry received his Eagle Scout award in Fort Worth, Texas.

In the summers of 1976 and 1977, Terry helped on the farms of his cousin Clyde Soderberg (on the Soderberg family farm), Rick Knudsvig, and Ron Eliason in Buxton, ND.

In 1974, the family was transferred to the Minot Air Force Base, Minot, ND. While attending Minot High School, Terry excelled in Vocational Auto Mechanics under the instruction of Pius Volk and Ralph Gullickson. He was in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America), qualified for nationals in 1978, representing North Dakota, and placed third.

Terry worked at North Hill Texaco in Minot from 1979 through 1980.

On January 1, 1981, he purchased Midwest Tire and Muffler, where he continued his love for working on cars. The shop quickly turned into a busy place, where the coffee pot was always on, the joke of the day ready to be told, and where the latest fishing report was shared. If Terry didn't know the customer when they walked in, they were a friend by the time they drove away. He raced stock cars at the Nodak Speedway, Minot, ND, from 1979 to 1983.

He served on the Vocational Auto Mechanics Advisory Board at Minot High School for many years.

Terry married the love of his life, Katie J. Mayer, on April 10, 1982. They were blessed with the birth of Tony in 1983 and Beth in 1984. The family enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and time with family and friends.

As the kids grew up, Terry was active as a coach of their youth t-ball, baseball, and football teams. Once they started school sports, Terry made it to every event he could. He became the "fun hockey dad" to many of Beth's hockey teammates and always had time for Tony's football and wrestling buds as well.

Terry played softball and was in various golf, dart, pool, and bowling leagues. On April 1, 2009, he bowled a perfect 300. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Terry enjoyed classic rock, attending many concerts. He loved a good action movie, the Harry Potter books, and movies, and followed NASCAR. The DGF Rebels, NDSU Bison, and MN Vikings were his favorite football teams. He was a lifelong member of the Harley Davidson Owner Group.

In early May of 2010, Terry closed Midwest Tire and Muffler. Shortly after, he started on a six-month solo motorcycle ride around the United States.
Along the way, he stayed with family and friends when he could. He returned home in late October.

Terry worked for Whiting Oil (now Chord Energy) as a Lease Operator and a Pumper from November 2010 until he retired in July 2015, at which time Terry and Katie moved to Moorhead, MN, to be closer to their children and their grandchildren.

During retirement, he worked events as part of the FargoDome Event Staff Team.

The twinkle in Terry's eyes was kept lit by his five wonderful grandbabies. He cherished his time with each of them, helping to nurture their individual interests, teaching them all to ride a bike, was their backup daycare when needed, and was the center of all their fun times at the "blue house." Grumpa TerTer or Papa (as they lovingly called him) will truly be missed.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Dean, brother-in-law Bruce Sheltrown, and father-in-law Jerome Mayer.

Terry is survived by his wife, Katie, Moorhead, MN; son, Tony (Katie Fay Albrecht) Soderberg of Glyndon, MN; and daughter, Beth Soderberg of Moorhead, MN. Five grandchildren: Logan, Cooper, Tyson, Eloise, and Audrey; brothers, Neal (Cheryl) of San Diego, CA, and Blaine (Jessie) Soderberg of Grand Forks, ND, mother-in-law, Pat Mayer of Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law, Paula Sheltrown, of Monterey, CA, Pam (Rod) Lee of Blaine, MN; Patty (Ken) Jensen of Powers Lake, ND, and Sheila (Dave) Derr of Sturgis, SD and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will take place at Soderberg Cemetery in Buxton, ND at 1:30 PM.
