Terry Lee Ray, 61 (traditional Ojibwe name meaning the Man of the Blue Waters) was born in Fargo, ND, on August 30, 1961, and peacefully passed on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Sanford Hospice House.
Penny Peltier was his significant other for over 30 years. They had two children, Dillon and Cassandra. He was previously married to Claudia Hudson. They had two children, Candace and Travis.
He started working at a young age at Fort Detroit and for the Fargo Forum delivering papers. At about the age of 16, he went to work for a seismographic company that did oil exploration in many locations around the U.S. He traveled around the country when he worked for Swanston Equipment doing pavement marking. He also worked in construction and as a roofer, among other jobs.
Terry was diagnosed with cancer just a few short weeks ago, and he was given a short time left on this earth. In that short time, he remained strong and resilient until he was called home by the creator. He was surrounded by family and friends, just as he wanted.
Before his diagnosis, he lived a life full of adventures; he loved to travel, hang out with his friends, hang out in the garage, and work on anything. He was a helping hand to everyone he knew. He will always be a legend, as his friends would say. He loved to give gifts to people and take his friends on his adventures. He took pride in teaching his children everything he knew. He was a proud member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
Terry is survived by Penny Peltier (his shiny penny); his children, Candace Ray-Rodriguez, and her children (Lavina, Madison, and Brooklyn), Travis and Courtney Ray (Asher), Dillon and Alexis Peltier (Keagan, Kasen, Kennasyn, and Stockton), Cassandra and Desmond Peltier (Titan); his siblings, Mary (Terry) Curfman, Alan Ray, Sandra (Dan) Reynolds; his sister-in-law Linda Ray and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gladys Ray, and his brothers, Bruce Ray and Charles Ray.
