Steven “Bosco” Gordon Leibfried, age 65, passed away on the evening of July 7, 2016 in the hospital. Steve was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 22, 1951, and graduated from Lakeville, MN High School in 1969. After marrying Marsha Lynn Wolf he served 3 years in the U.S. Army (January 23, 1972 through March 21, 1975), and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts at Mankato State University (MSU). While attending MSU, Steve became the proud father of a son, Justin Aaron Leibfried Docken on January 21, 1978. After moving his young family to Fargo, ND, Steve eventually accepted an academic staff position at Moorhead State University. He enjoyed working with many students and faculty while doing what he loved within his academic specialty.
Being brought up as a "military brat", Steve enjoyed traveling when means allowed. As evidenced by his college major, Steve loved all things related to mass media from movies and live performances to television and print media news. Mostly self-taught, Steve launched into computers for use in news sharing, distance education, social media, business networking; any use a computer could serve in communications. After leaving the university, he used his interest in computers to become a private consultant. Among friends and family, he was part showman. Steve always had a store of jokes to tell and retell (many very involved and lengthy) as he loved making people laugh. His big heartedness was expressed by his frequent and often secret giving of thoughtfully chosen gifts. His grandchildren, Keaton Justin and Landon Aaron Docken, were often times delightfully surprised to find seasonal gifts left at the doorstep from Grandpa “Easter Bunny”, “Mr. Spooky”, “Santa”, and alike. Grandpa “Belly” will always be remembered for his creative thoughtfulness.
Steve was preceded in death by parents Gordon Peter and Lucille Mary (Skillings) Leibfried. He is survived by son, Justin Aaron Leibfried Docken (Tina); grandsons, Landon and Keaton; 4 siblings, Mary Lorrene (Forbes), Kenai, AK; Mary Lorraine (Rutledge), Madison, WI; Lucinda Joan (Allen), Sharpsburg, GA; and Stanley Davis Leibfried, Shoreview, MN; 10 nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo on Thursday, July 14, 2016 starting with a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Vigil Service. After cremation, final placement will occur with military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
