Steve Hlebechuk of Fargo, ND passed away Sunday morning August 25, 2013 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo after battling multiple heath problems for the past year. He had spent most of the last year in the hospital and nursing home with many trips to the clinic and emergency room.
Steve was born January 13, 1960 to Virginia and Ted Hlebechuk in Fargo and was raised in Fargo graduating from Fargo South. His first job was working for his Uncle Delano at Mr. Steak. He also worked with his father as a carpet installer and had his own carpet business for a time. He worked at Dan’s Oil in north Fargo, the Bowler, and then did maintenance at the Econo Lodge in Fargo.
Steve had dealt with several health problems that had started with juvenile diabetes and had been disabled for the many years. He has lived with his Mother and Stepdad Al for the past several years. All who knew Steve remember his positive personality and love of life. He will be remembered by his friends and family as someone who brightened up the room and always had a joke or something uplifting to say to everyone. He enjoyed playing pool, card games, time with his friends during happy hour, the Minnesota Twins, and much more. During the last year of his life his friends came through for him with visits, calls, card games, and just going for a ride. The last trips he made were to his Dad’s farm where he enjoyed target practicing, joking with his Dad, and a great steak. All who knew Steve loved him.
Steve was preceded in death by his Mother Virginia and his step brother Jeramy Olson.
Steve is survived by his Father, Ted Hlebechuk (Joanne), Norcross, Mn; his Stepdad, Al Wittkopp, Fargo; his brothers, Jeff (Becky), Fargo; Mark (Rhonda); his step brother, Chris Olson of Phoenix, Az; his sisters, Kelly Fix (Richard Evanson), Fargo, and Kris Christenson, West Fargo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
