It is with great sadness that the family of Steven William Green, 64, announces his passing on Monday, August 15, 2022, at his home in Horace, ND.
Steven William Green, known to all as “Greeno,” was born July 30, 1958, in Fargo, ND, to Louis and Dolores (Pladson) Green. He graduated from Fargo North High School in 1976. Following high school, he worked various jobs in construction, traveling to many states. Steve later began working in maintenance, construction, and property management in Fargo for Builder’s Management & Investment Company, which later became a family-owned and operated business acquired by his parents, Louis and Dolores Green, in the 1980s. After the passing of both parents in 1995 and 2000, Steve and his sister Jackie continued the ownership and management of the business until its sale in 2019.
Steve was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sportsman from a very early age. He learned his excellent hunting and fishing skills from his dad, and they traveled to many remote hunting spots all over the United States and Canada. Steve was also an exceptional snow and water skier. Most every winter weekend was spent at the Detroit Lakes Ski Mountain and Steve’s ability to ballet ski down the hill left people pointing and commenting on his smooth and elegant maneuvers and finding it hard to believe that someone as tall as 6’ 4” could have such moves. Summers were spent at Lake Melissa and Little Detroit Lake, where he pestered his dad every minute to pull him water skiing. The faster, the better, was his motto, and we all watched as he’d lay nearly flat to the water with a spray that could be seen from afar. Steve had a passion for dogs and saved every dog tag from each one he owned. Steve also developed an enthusiasm for sports cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed touring around in each of them. He was very creative and always found something to build, remodel, or create from scratch. What was known as the “Arena” was transformed into an incredible museum of hundreds of antiques and collectibles, pictures of family, and hunting trophies. He was very giving and generous to many people and often made them things that he created. Those “creations” ranged from something incredibly funny (at least according to him), or something very touching and personal. He had a great sense of humor. That is the one thing he and his sister had in common; he was always telling her she was his favorite comedian. Steve always had a warm welcome with a good joke, a big hug, or an elaborate story. The Schwan delivery man remarked that Steve was his favorite stop because he looked forward to always hearing a good story. Steve will be remembered for many things, but his very deep voice was always the first thing you noticed, and many people often thought he should be on the radio. He was also known to sing a tune or two but was much too shy to let anyone hear it.
It was not uncommon for Steve to purchase a cross necklace and hang it on the bedside of any friend that was ill. He had the ability to make you feel special and treated guests in his home to homemade meals and your favorite food and drink.
Steve will be remembered and missed by; his sister Jackie Green-Anderson (Stephen), Two sons; Christopher Green and Cody Finley; five grandchildren; Madison Green (Zach), Paige Green, Drake Green, Cora Green, and Easton Storbakken; Aunt Maxine Lauer, and Aunt Jean Pladson, many cousins and close friends, and his beloved companion dog K9.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dolores Green; sister, Sharon Green, grandparents; Martin and Clara Pladson; and Uncles Verne Pladson, Jerry Pladson, and Charles Lauer.
