Shirley J. Syverson, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Shirley Joan Stout was born July 13, 1932 on a farm in Sargent County, ND to Samuel C. and Manda (Norman) Stout. She attended Riverdale Township School and Oakes Public School and was graduated in 1950. She received her training at Interstate Business College and became a federal employee of the Office of Price Stabilization (OPS). Later she transferred to the Federal Housing Administration (FHA-HUD), working there until retirement in the late 1980’s.
Shirley married Willis D. Syverson in 1957 and resided the rest of her life in Fargo, ND. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fargo. She was a member of Fargo Eastern Star Mecca Chapter #5 for over 50 years, and the Sons of Norway where she worked as a volunteer. Her interests and hobbies were varied. She especially enjoyed her “Y” water exercise class. She loved to travel. She rarely stayed home if there were places to go and things to do. She was an organizer.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Marguerite (J.F.) Garvey; nephew, John Garvey; niece, Joanie (D.R. Patton) Garvey, all of Casa Grande, AZ; niece, June Palensky, Fargo, ND; and many other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Syverson; brothers, Raymond, Norman, and Dale; sister, Marie; and her parents.
