Shirley Emma Kaseman

April 4, 1934 — February 13, 2019

Shirley Emma (Bettenhausen) Kaseman, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in Fargo, surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born Apr 4, 1934 on the Bettenhausen family farm near Wishek, ND. She had a large, loving family - eight brothers and eight sisters, all of who grew to adult hood. On July 4, 1954 Shirley married Marvin R. Kaseman, upon his return from Army Active Duty in Alaska. They lived mainly in Fargo, ND and were long time members of Hope Lutheran Church. They also lived in Linton, ND from 1968-1974 but returned to Fargo. Shirley was one of the very first State Bank of Fargo bank tellers (now Bell Bank), working at the original State Bank of Fargo, Northport Mall, Fargo. She worked at the bank until her retirement, eventually becoming a Bank Officer and Head Teller at the then new bank building on 13th Ave South, Fargo. She was great with people and some bank customers would line up and wait to do their banking with her, instead of other open tellers.

After their retirement, Shirley and Marvin became "snowbirds", travelling between their beautiful retirement cabin on Beaver Bay, Linton, ND and southern spots ranging from California to Florida. They even drove in a pick-up camper all the way to Fairbanks, Alaska one summer. They eventually sold their last RV and bought a Park Model in Harlingen, TX in the Lakewood RV Park. Shirley made many friends at Lakewood; they proudly called themselves "Winter Texans." Even in TX during the winter she grew beautiful flowers and plants.

Shirley was a master gardener. Her flower beds were full of gorgeous flowers of all kinds and colors. Their homemade sauerkraut, pickles and tomato juice were excellent, refined after many years of practice.

Shirley was a truly exceptional Mom and Grandma. She loved being with her three grandchildren. She was a wonderful role model for everyone, brightening the room when she entered. Her smile and friendliness were uplifting and inspiring.

Shirley is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Marvin Raymond Kaseman; her daughter, Tamara C. Watson (Tim) and her son Jason M. Kaseman (Sharon); three beloved grandchildren: Matthew J. Kaseman, Stanford University, CA; Sarah C. Kaseman, Melbourne, FL; and John A. Watson, West Chester, OH.

Shirley was preceded on her journey to Heaven by her Parents, Oliver Wesley Bettenhausen and Emma Grace (Kramer) and her daughter Deborah S. Kaseman (1956 - 1994).
