Shirley Jean Heiser passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at Bethany Homes Fargo, ND. Shirley was born in Durand, Michigan to Eddie and Bernice Crane and was their only child.
After completing high school Shirley went to Central University of Michigan and obtained a masters degree in Business Administration and teaching. Shirley taught school in Ravenna, MI, teaching, Business Education, Continuing Education and Math at the college. Shirley also taught math and business in Flint, MI High School.
On September 11, 1971 Shirley married Richard Heiser at the St. Mary’s Church in Swartz Creek, MI. To this union, Shirley assumed the role of step mother to Richard’s daughter Rhonda Heiser (Tolbert).
Shirley’s husband Richard was transferred by GMC factory so they lived in Lennon, MI, Swartz Creek, MI, Fairfield, OH, and Lansing, MI. Shirley enjoyed golfing and bowling with Richard. She kept busy crocheting many baby blankets.
Shirley is preceded by her husband of nearly 50 years, Richard. Shirley is survived by her step daughter Rhonda (Jon) Tolbert, Breckenridge, MN; step grandson Zachary (Nikala) Tolbert, step great-grandsons Danial, Michel, Chance and Zander; step great-granddaughter Zoie Tolbert all of Wahpeton, ND; step granddaughter Amy Lee and husband Dion Vantyler, step great-grandsons Blaze Lee and Breeze Vantyler; step great-granddaughter Brooklin Vantyler all of Elk River, MN; brother-in-law Edward Heiser, Fargo, ND, sister-in-law Carolyn (Bruce) Clark, Soddy-Daisy, TN; brother-in-law Joseph Heiser of Durand, MI; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Because Shirley requested it, there will not be a service of any kind. Shirley was an educator so she donated her body to the UND school of Medicine. Internment will be at the Veterans Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
