Shirley Green passed away on November 27, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 96. Shirley Mae Thompson was born in Ada, Minnesota, to Fred and Blanche Thompson on August 14, 1926. The family moved to Moorhead in 1943, where she graduated from Moorhead High School. She and Fred Green married on April 22, 1949. They were blessed with three children; she raised them in Fargo and the Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, area. In the early '60s, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, for a few years, then returned to Fargo. They enjoyed their home on Pelican Lake, where they hosted platform tennis tournaments with friends and family. After the children left home, Shirley and Fred established residence in Fort Myers, Florida, where they spent most of their winters. Fred passed away in 1988. In 1990, she married Wilfred Fredrikson through 2007. In 2018 Shirley returned to Fargo to be closer to her family.
Shirley was a beautiful lady, inside and out. She was a fun-loving, generous, and compassionate woman who loved her family more than anything. Her fondest memories include sitting in church with her whole family surrounding her and playing Rummy Royal with her family. Shirley enjoyed socializing with friends and playing tennis, golf, and bridge. She was involved with her church and Stephens Ministry. She served in various volunteer organizations, such as PTA, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Fargo chapter of Junior League.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her three brothers, Chuck, Dick and Don Thompson. She is survived by her three children, John, Cindy, and Steve (Connie); four grandchildren, Stephanie Green (Tom Stromsodt), Derek (Khara) Green, Jessica (Adam) Skalsky, and Michael Green; seven great-grandchildren, Effie and Cash Green, Quinn and Hadley Stromsodt and Beckham, Boston and Brixten Skalsky and many nieces and nephews.
She was a kind, loving soul and a beautiful example of God's love to the world. She will truly be missed. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of the Red River Valley, who provided 24/7 expert medical, emotional, and spiritual support with the highest quality end-of-life care. We will be forever grateful to have had such kind, loving people giving support not only to our mother but also to the rest of our family.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
