Shirley Ethel Aman, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on July 21, 2024. She was 87 years old.
Born in Hope, North Dakota on February 13, 1937, Shirley was the daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Smalley) McCullough. She graduated from Hope High School in 1955 and later moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where she began her career at the telephone company. Shirley left the telephone company to stay home with her two young children, Terry and Patti, before returning to work at North Dakota State University (NDSU). After many dedicated years at NDSU, she eventually found herself back on a switchboard at Sanford Health, where she worked until her well-deserved retirement.
Shirley married her best friend and love of her life Rupert Aman and they shared 60 wonderful years together. They shared a deep and abiding love that was evident to all who knew them. Shirley was Rupert's devoted partner and together they created a loving home filled with warmth and memories.
In retirement, Shirley continued to devote herself to caring for Rupert and cherishing time with her family. She was an avid embroiderer, creating beautiful pieces that were treasured by her loved ones. Shirley also found great joy in spending time with her nieces, whom she adored.
Shirley is survived by her son, Terry Aman, and daughter, Patti Ellingson. She is also survived by extended family Lance and Tracy Ziebarth, and numerous other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rupert Aman; her parents, Joseph and Ethel McCullough; her brothers, Charles, Glen, Everett, and Milton; and her sisters Ardis, Marlys, Jean, and Joann.
The family invites friends and loved ones to attend a memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Shirley's memory.
"Though her voice is silent, her memory will always speak volumes in our hearts."
