Sherman Hoiberg, 80, from Fargo, passed away at Sanford Hospital on Friday, July 20th. He was born on 12-30-31 in Pekin, ND, where he grew up on the farm and graduated from high school. He married Donna Linnum on September 14, 1952. They lived and worked in Lakota, ND, farmed near Pekin, before moving to Grand Forks and Fargo.
His loves were his family, friends, music, fishing and going to Ottertail Lake. He enjoyed shopping for bargains at flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores. Many treasures were purchased for family and friends to enjoy for years to come. He was an active member of the Elim Lutheran Church. He spent 8 long years courageously, and with fierce tenacity, battling cancer to which he finally succumbed.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, and children, Michelle (Merle) Forde, Tolna, ND, Sandy (Steve) Kuntz, Brooklyn Park, MN, Steven (Sandra) Hoiberg, Nashville, TN and Stacey (Amy) Hoiberg, Fargo, ND as well as, his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.His brother Larry (Ellen) Hoiberg, sisters Idell (Vernon) Hovdenes, Linda Hoiberg, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mildred Hoiberg, brother-in-law, Gordon Bjornstad, and his sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Jerry Williams.
Memorials preferred to Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo or the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo, ND.
The family wishes to sincerely thank each of you for coming today and paying respect to Sherman. We greatly appreciate all of the support and prayers received throughout the years. We will forever be grateful to the doctors, staff and nurses at Roger Maris Cancer Center and Sanford Hospital for their continued care and concern on his behalf. We are blessed to have had Pastor Sue’s constant support in visitation and prayer.
