Sharon Ruth (James) Hatlestad of Horace, North Dakota, passed away quietly on Sunday June 18, 2023 after a battle with pancreatic and liver cancer.
Sharon was born in Park Rapids, Minnesota on December 19, 1947. She graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1965.
She then went to Minneapolis, where she worked in the wheat department of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. It was there that she met Kenneth Hatlestad, who was also in the grain business. They were married at Horace Lutheran Church on June 29, 1974, and lived in Horace where they raised their sons, Mark and Preston.
Sharon loved children and worked in daycare in Kindred and in March of 2008 she started working at SENDCAA Head Start. At Head Start, she worked in the classroom until March 2018 then she started cooking for the children and staff and was there until her passing.
Sharon was a member of Horace Lutheran Church and a part of the Altar Guild. She loved flowers and gardening. She made lots of jams to share with family and friends. Spending time with her granddaughters Lacey and Shelby was one of her favorite things to do.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Margaret James, and her brother, Kenneth James. She will be missed by her husband, Kenneth Hatlestad; sons, Mark (LaVern) Hatlestad of Glen Ullin, ND, Dr. Preston (Claire) Hatlestad, Clermont, FL; granddaughters, Lacey (Andy) Bachmann and Shelby Hatlestad, Fargo, ND. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Antoinette) James, Alexandria, MN; and sister, Delores Dierks, Park Rapids, MN.
The funeral service for Sharon will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 11am at Horace Lutheran Church, Horace, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center or the charity of your choice.
