Samuel Scott

April 4, 1975 — November 26, 2023

In Loving Memory of Samuel Nathan Scott

Sam Scott, age 48, passed away on November 26th, 2023 in his home. Sam was born on April 4th, 1975 in Fargo, ND to Susan and Steven Scott. He lived in Fargo until the age of 5, when the family moved to Hazen, ND. Sam graduated from Hazen High, and he was their Homecoming King his senior year.

It seemed like Sam was born on skates, hitting the ice at a very young age. He and his family were part of building an indoor rink in Hazen, and Sam clocked many hours playing hockey and being a Rink Rat. After high school Sam moved back to Fargo doing various jobs. Many of which found him in the kitchen, he was an excellent cook.

Unfortunately, Sam battled the demons of addiction for nearly half of his life, facing the relentless challenges that this illness presents. His journey was marked by pain and turbulence, and he undoubtedly caused hurt to those closest to him. It is important to acknowledge these difficulties honestly. Addiction is a formidable adversary, and Sam faced battles that many cannot comprehend.

Despite the hardships he endured, it is essential to remember the person Sam was beyond his struggles. He possessed a kind and compassionate heart, finding something good in everyone. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. Despite the shadows, his legacy includes many moments of love, joy, and connection.

Sam had been clean and sober for the last eight years, he demonstrated remorse and sought reconciliation with those he had hurt. His struggle was a reminder that addiction is a complex and pervasive issue that touches the lives of individuals and families alike.

Sam leaves behind a network of friends and family who will remember him for the person he was—a human being with strengths, flaws, and, above all, the capacity for change.

May Sam’s soul find peace, and may those who knew him find solace in the good memories of the person they loved.

Sam is survived by his mother, Susan (Dubord) Scott; his sister Jess (Chad) Volk, and brothers Coleman (Melissa) Scott, and Jake (Lori) Scott. His children; Hunter Scott, Max Scott, Tayler Scott and Rylie Scott. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sam was preceded in death by his father Steven Scott, his grandparents Frances and Leigh Scott, and Ronald and Dorothy Dubord. The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with their kind words and condolences. They are planning a private family celebration of Sam’s life in January.
