Ruth Walker, 92, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at home, surrounded by her family and the 2 dogs she loved so much.
Ruth was born July 13, 1924 in Portland, Oregon to the late William and Minnie Byers and would later live in Washington, California, and North Dakota. She had 1 brother, who preceded her in death. Ruth married the late Ben Benton and had 2 children from this union, her daughter also preceding her in death. She later married the late James Walker and had 2 children from this union. Her children blessed her with 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Her grandchildren have precious memories of the beautiful cakes she would decorate for their birthdays.
She found great joy in baking and sewing, spending hours in her kitchen or sewing room but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, laughing and always with a smile on her face and a kind word, even in her final hours. To know her was to love her.
A devout Christian, she began her day by reading her devotional. She served in her church nursery for many years and later worked as a cook in the schools. Having a heart for children, she would save extra food for children who may not have had an evening meal otherwise.
Galatians 5:22-23 reads, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Ruth was a living example of this. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
