Ruth Harriett Solien was born May 11, 1925 to Hannah (Holte) and Jacob Hove at Ulen, Minnesota.
Ruth and her husband, Vernon L. Solien graduated from Twin Valley Minnesota High School in 1943. Ruth worked in interior decorating for seven years in Fargo. On April 4, 1950 she and Vernon were married at Twin Valley Zion Lutheran Church. They moved to Denver Colorado were Vernon worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. In June 1953 they moved to Minneapolis where
Vernon worked for Thorshov and Cerny Architects and Engineers.
Ruth attended Minneapolis Business College, later working for General Tire and Rubber Co. They moved to Fargo in 1965 where Vernon had his consulting structural engineering firm. Ruth was his secretary and bookkeeper.
When they retired they decided to work on their genealogy, working through the Latter Day Saints records. They researched their maternal and paternal families in Norway reaching back to 1620. They later published their books and visited the farms where their relatives were born. Ruth has many cousins living in Norway and visited them several times.
Ulen, Minnesota is named after Ruth’s great-great-grandfather, Ole Ulen, who came to the United States in 1851. Ruth was a member of the Sons of Norway since 1975 and enjoyed working and holding several positions there.
Ruth, age 90 died Friday, June 26, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; twin brother, Raymond; parents; sisters & brothers, Alice, Angeline, Mabel, Alma, James, Conrad, Ida, Carla, Juliet, and Oliver.
She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Walton Solien, Ohio & Robert Solien, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She will be buried next to her husband Vernon, twin brother Raymond, her Father and Mother in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley, MN.
