Ruth Hovden, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
Ruth was born June 8, 1926 on the family farm in Aneta, ND to Ben and Emma (Running) Nedberg. She graduated from Aneta High School and attended Valley City State College returning to teach school in a one room school house near Northwood, ND. After moving to Fargo, Ruth went to work for the Fargo Police Department where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Hovden on July 8, 1952 at Northwood ND. After her husband’s death, she started working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield until her retirement.
Ruth had a spirit of adventure that fed a love to travel and see the world. With her sisters, there was always a new destination waiting around the next corner. But travel took a backseat to the love she had for her faith and family. They were the center of her life and she was completely devoted to both. Her grandchildren and great grandchild brought a light to her eyes that was apparent to all. Her infectious smile will lovingly be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two sons, Doug (Dawn) and Don (Kim). Three grandchildren, Erika (Justin) Lake, Lauren Hovden, Brent Hovden and great grandson, Weston Lake. All of Fargo. Four sisters, Martha Torkelson, Grand Forks, ND, Alfa Haugen, Moorhead, MN, Dorothy (Owen) Schott, Deephaven, MN and Sylvia Rausch, Fargo, ND and one brother Erling Nedberg, Estero, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Irma Nygaard, brother Kenneth Nedberg and granddaughter Brooke Hovden.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Radio Fund or the North Dakota Diabetes Association.
