Ruth Jane Hamer was born on November 9, 1930, to Benjamin and Annetta (Hanson) Molsberry in Harvey, ND. She grew up and attended school in Harvey before furthering her education at the Business College in Minot, ND. She worked as a secretary and medical receptionist in Harvey and in Fargo. Her last job before retiring to raise her children was at FC Hayer Company in downtown Fargo.
On September 13, 1955, she married Roy Hamer at First Lutheran Church in Harvey, ND. Roy and Ruth had known each other since the 1st grade. Roy's sister claimed that Roy told her upon returning home from school, that he had found the girl he was going to marry. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their 4 children, George, Elizabeth, Susan and Michael. Ruth was a caring and nurturing mother who centered her life around her family. As her kids got older, she decided to return to work with the intention of working in the office at Fargo Nursing home (St. Catherine's North). But since no office job was available, she took a nurse's aide job until an office job became available. Unexpectedly, she found her true calling as a nurse's aide. She was a gentle, compassionate and patient caregiver.
After their retirement, Ruth and Roy were able to do quite a bit of traveling including a 3-week trip to South Africa. In 2001, she and Roy began wintering in Dunedin, Florida where they could spend more time with their daughter, Liz. At home, Ruth took much pride in her flower gardening and always had one of the nicest yards in the neighborhood. Her other interests included jigsaw puzzles, watching the Twins games with her neighbor and attending her grandchildren's various activities. She was the best mom and grandmother. Her grandchildren adored her and looked forward to their visits to grandmas, where cupboards were filled with their favorite treats, video games were in abundance, and there was no bedtime.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Annetta; siblings, Opal Preftokis, Milton Molsberry, Donald Molsberry, and Dorothy Johnson; grandson, Shawn Teiken.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 69 years, Roy; children, George (Julie) Hamer, Elizabeth (Albert Nelmapius) Schroetke, Susan (Marshall) Korman, and Michael (Beth) Hamer; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Rohaley, Katie (Logan) Doll, Aaron (Casey) Korman, Emily (Matt) Henning, Ethan Hamer, Owen Hamer, and Kegan (Kelley) Nelmapius; great-grandchildren, Raymond Peters, Wynn Teiken, Ryker Rohaley; Sadie Korman, Olivia Korman, Carter Henning, and Parker Henning; Roman Nelmapius, Ezekial Nelmapius and Isaiah Nelmapius; and many nieces and nephews.
