Russell Lund

Russell P. Lund passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Fargo, ND. Russell was born March 1, 1919, at Aneta, ND, to Hans and Amanda (Rindahl) Lund. He was educated at Sharon School. He graduated from Sharon and went on to Mayville State College, where he received a degree in education and coaching. He went to Mayville on an athletic scholarship, playing basketball and football. He was a member of the football team of 1940, that won the 1st conference championship for the college. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. He served aboard a heavy cruiser in the south Atlantic and Mediterranean. He took part in the invasion of Normandy and southern Italy. He received his discharge in October, 1945. He married Evelyn Braniff of Doyon, ND, on September 19, 1944, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Doyon, ND. He taught at Doyon, ND. He was principal and coach at Dunseith, ND. He then was superintendent at Badger, MN, and at Clinton, MN. He spent 32 years in education and retired in 1977. He was very active in the Lutheran churches at Clinton, Badger and Fargo. He was also involved in community affairs. After retirement, he and his wife, Evelyn, traveled to many places. They spent many winters in Texas and Arizona. In 1982, they moved to Fargo. Russell is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Evelyn, Fargo, ND; his son, Ronald, Tacoma, WA; son Bradley (Pahmoney), Laguna Beach, CA; his daughter, Karen (Larry) Buchele, Milbank, SD; seven grandchildren; a brother, Miles (Hazel), Sharon, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Clifford. Funeral Service: Monday, July 2, at 10 AM, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Sunday, July 1, from 2 – 3:30 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: Sunday, July 1, at 3:30 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
