Rory Alan Benz, 23, of Fargo, was born Easter Sunday, March 26, 1989. He chose to go home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2013.
Rory grew up and attended school in Fargo. He was a baptized member of Hope Lutheran Church. Rory started swimming with the Gators team when he was in second grade and went on to be an award-winning diver on the Fargo North diving team. He was president of the Art Club and attended Boys’ State, graduating from Fargo North High School in 2008. He started working at the 19th Avenue North Holiday Station at the age of 16 and was employed there for 7 years. He enjoyed chatting with the Fargo North students and the many family friends who came into the station during his shifts.
Rory went on to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead for graphic design. He was a talented artist; he did amazing chalk art and loved sketching with pencil and charcoal and sculpting in various mediums.
Rory was a fan of the F-M RedHawks and enjoyed going to their games with his mom. He loved music, especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one of his favorite activities was attending music festivals with his friends and his sister, Chloé.
Rory is survived by his parents, Vicki (Terry) Olson of Mandan, ND and Ryan (Lorelee) Benz of Fargo, ND; his brother Cole (Leah) Benz of Bowman, ND; his sister Chloé Benz of Fargo, ND; his maternal grandparents, Kermit and Carol Siegert; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Erwin and Rhea Benz; maternal great-grandparents Frances and Fred Siegert; and Edward the Dog.
