Ronald Stenberg, 78, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Bethany on University, Fargo, from complications of Parkinson’s.
Ronald Curtis Stenberg was born March 21, 1938, in Ada, MN, where he grew up on a farm NE of town. After graduating from Ada High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He attained the rank of Corporal and Plane Captain. After being honorably discharged from active duty, he served in Reserve status, assigned to MARTC Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL, until September 1962.
Ron married Shirley Ann Buzick of Fargo on December 30, 1960. He farmed with his parents, Joseph and Lenora Stenberg, before attending Interstate Business College where he majored in Business Administration. After college, Ron accepted a position at Great Northern Railroad. He held a variety of titles until retiring in August 1995 as Regional Marketing Manager for Burlington Northern RR. During his railroad career, he received the Chairman's Award for excellence. Ron was a member of the American Legion Post 21 in Moorhead.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, Mrs. Carrie (Todd) Stenhjem and Gordon Stenberg, both of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Danielle, Joshua and Emily Stenhjem; sisters, Joann (Kenneth) Dahl, rural Felton, MN; Dianne (Harvey) Dahl, rural Borup, MN; Marilyn (Marc) Erickson, East Grand Forks, MN; and Kathy (Ted) Torkildson, Dent, MN.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven, in March 1982.
