Ronald L Arneson, Fargo, ND, 94, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 at Bethany on 42nd.
Ron was born to Beulah Gilbertson Arneson and George W Arneson on Sept 6, 1929 in Bottineau, ND and attended school in Overly, ND.
He joined the National Guard in 1947 and was activated in 1950 during the Korean War and deployed to Fort Lewis. He was honorably discharged in 1951.
In January of 1952 he became employed by Great Northen Railway as an agent telegrapher. In 1958 while working in Luverne, ND as a station agent, he met the love of life, Karen Pedersen. They were married Aug 14, 1960 in Luverne, ND. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their daughter, Jill.
Ron retired in 1991 after working for Great Northern, Amtrak, and Burlington Northern for 39 years. His grandson Evan was born in 1992 and was a huge part of Ron's life. They had a very special bond. Besides supporting Evan in his various activities, he enjoyed reading, spending time with family, restoring his old pickup, and visiting with his neighbors.
Ron is survived by his daughter Jill (Doug) Kurtz, Fargo, ND; grandson Evan (Amanda) Kurtz, Highlands Ranch, CO; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, his parents, George and Beulah Arneson, and his siblings, Doris Molgard, Glenn Arneson, Shirley Aasness, and Richard Arneson.
Ron's family would like to thank his caregivers at Bethany on 42nd and Ethos Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 2900 Broadway N, Fargo, on Thursday, June 6 at 2:00PM with visitation at 1:00PM. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope Lutheran Church or Great Plains Food Bank.
