Rodney D. Oxton, 80 of Cooperstown, died Sunday, September 6th, 2015 at the Griggs County Care Center after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Rodney was born April 16, 1935 to parents John and Mabel (Olson) Oxton on the family farm in Steele County. Growing up on the family farm, he attended and graduated from Finley High School in 1953. Rodney married JoAnn Good on February 6, 1954 at Franklin Township in Steele County.
Rodney and JoAnn made their home in Fargo where he worked as a truck driver, later owning and operating his own trucking business. They raised four children together. He enjoyed bowling, mowing the lawn, restoring pickups, and golfing – especially during their winters in Arizona. Rodney also enjoyed football and was an avid Bison fan.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Fargo; children, David (Ranae) Oxton of McVille, ND, Steven (Judy) Oxton of Fargo, Lisa (Steve) Eicholtz of Fargo, and John (Julene) Oxton of Lakeville, MN; brother, William (Annette) Oxton; sisters, Marian Chepulis, Fran Miller, and Pat Bradehoft; sister-in-law, Vivian Oxton; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mabel; brothers, Neilan, James, and Donald; sisters, Betty and Phyllis, and grandson, Tyler Eicholtz.
Memorials in honor of Rodney may be sent to Altru Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
*CORRECTION*Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 10 from 5-7pm, followed by a Prayer Service at 7pm at Hope Lutheran Church North Campus in Fargo.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the church.
