Roberta L. (Thorson) (Gellner) Hoffies, age 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on January 31, 2024, in her home surrounded by her son, Jeffrey Gellner, and under the care of Ethos Home Health Care & Hospice. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM, followed by her 7 PM prayer service at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. Visitation will continue at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 1 PM to 2 PM, followed by her 2 PM Funeral Service. Deacon Kathy Hunstad will officiate the service. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
Roberta L. Thorson was born on August 10, 1933, in Hope, ND, to Leonard V. and Cynthia L. (McPherson) Thorson. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1951. She furthered her education at North Dakota State University. She taught home economics in the following cities or communities; Watford City, ND, Langdon, ND, Wahpeton, ND, Madison, SD, Corson, SD, and Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
After retiring from teaching home economics, she moved her family to Moorhead in 1987. She worked for AAA of MN, and Walmart in Dilworth, MN, where she worked until her retirement.
Roberta was a member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Inver Grove Heights and Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. She loved watching and listening to; The MN Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Wild, Lynx, Gophers, Dragons, FM RedHawks, Professional Women's Hockey League, and especially, her NDSU Bison. She enjoyed being outside in her garden watching the tomatoes, peppers, rhubarb, raspberries, and apples grow. She cherished cooking, sewing, and listening and watching country music; with her favorite artist being George Strait.
Roberta will be forever missed by her son, Jeffrey Gellner, Moorhead; stepson, Leon Hoffies, Cottage Grove, MN; sister, Shirley Williams, Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Marliss Thorson, Lake Elmo, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Cynthia Thorson; brother, Gerald Thorson, Fargo, Donald Thorson, Hillsboro, ND; husband, William Gellner, Fargo; second husband, Richard Hoffies, Inver Grove Heights.
