Robert (Bob) Laverne Potter, 77, passed away peacefully on March 26th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Essentia Health. A visitation and celebration of life will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo on Monday, March 31st at 12:00pm.
Bob was born on December 10th, 1947 to Ernest and Arietta (Sandvold) Potter. He was raised and educated in Bismarck where he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1966. After high school, his love of the West took him to Montana where he experienced a new way of life, working with horses and exploring all that the mountains had to offer.
Later in life, Bob found true happiness with the love of his life, Marlys. Together, they embarked on a new chapter together. They lived and loved in Bismarck until moving to Fargo in 2005.
Bob worked in the construction industry all his life. Upon moving to Fargo, he began work at Christianson's Business Furniture, where he worked until his retirement in 2016. He is known for his unwavering work ethic. In the 11 years he spent at Christianson's, he didn't take a single day off.
In his retirement, Bob spent his days surrounded by the West (whilst still in Fargo). He could often be found perched in the "western room" of their home, which is furnished with Western memorabilia. He thoroughly enjoyed Wild West shows, movies, and novels. The only thing Bob loved more than the West was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, excitedly awaiting their visits.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marlys (Witt) Potter of Fargo; daughter, Tabitha Potter of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca Seibel (Jacob) and Nevaeh Potter of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Gale Potter (Kathy) of Flasher, ND, and his brother-in-law, Charles Witt (Betty) of Fargo as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donny Potter, his parents, and four brothers, Dick, Lowell, Gary, and Gene Potter.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Essentia Health ER & ICU.
