Robert E. Jones, 87, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo. Robert E. Jones was born January 29, 1923, in Duluth, Minnesota. Due to the illness of his mother, who died at the age of 27, he was raised by his paternal grandmother in Des Moines, Iowa, where he grew up and spent the earlier part of his life. He took university courses at Kansas State College, the University of Maryland and Iowa State College. Bob was a World War II Army Air Forces Veteran and served in the European and South Atlantic theaters. He served an additional enlistment following World War II in the Army Air Forces/US Air Force. He served in the South Pacific area and on the Berlin Airlift. Following the latter service, Bob was employed by the Department of the Army Signal Corps and later transferred to the Civil Aeronautics Authority which later became the Federal Aviation Agency. He worked for these agencies as an electronic technician or an electronic engineer. Bob married Marion Poniken on December 2, 1961, in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was employed at that time. In July 1963, he was transferred to Fargo, North Dakota. In 1968, he was transferred to the Twin Cities area. He retired from government service in 1975 and returned to Fargo. Bob worked for approximately five years for Prairie Public Television as a TV broadcast engineer. Bob is survived by his wife, son, David Jones (Belinda Ruud), Fargo, ND; daughter, Nancy Jones (Paul Red Elk), Minneapolis, MN.
