Robert Eugene DeVries was born on March 9, 1949 in Rockwell, Iowa to Jerry and Lena (Schroeder) DeVries. After graduating from Meservey-Thornton High School, he served in the US Army.
Robert married Betty Vierkant on Dec. 20, 1969 in Meservey, Iowa. They moved to Moorhead, MN in 1973. Robert worked at American Crystal Sugar for 40 years. In 1977 and 1979 respectively, Bob and Betty adopted their two daughters from Korea, Denby Jean and Korly Anne.
Betty and Bob started a support group for newly diagnosed MS patients in the F-M area. Bob served as president for a number of years. He was a fisherman, target shooter and movie buff. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Bob died April 19, 2017 at his home in Moorhead, MN.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Denby DeVries, Moorhead, MN and Korly DeVries, Brooklyn, NY; sisters, Alvina Mulenbruch, Mason City, Iowa and Rose (Hans) Springer; brothers, Richard (Dina) DeVries and Butch (Marla Dean) DeVries; grandson, Coragan Duncklee, North Pole, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; sisters, Mary Wiebenga, Lucy DeVries, Mildred Jensen and brother, Don DeVries.
Visitation will also be held from 1-2pm Monday, April 24, at First Reformed Church in Meservey, Iowa. Burial is in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton, Iowa.
