In the early morning of August 2, 2016 at Sanford, Robert Alan Johnson left this world after fighting his battle with cancer for over a year. He was born on Friday, May 13, 1960 and grew up in Kennedy, MN, the youngest of six children. Bob’s lifetime of comedy, culinary arts, adventure, and more than a little bit of mischief that began in Kennedy, took him to Grand Forks, Velva, Willow City, and finally Fargo. Along the way, he touched the lives of innumerable friends, coworkers, adoring pets, and especially those of his family.
He was a skilled chef and a mentor for countless service industry workers, and he was a hilariously irreverent comic who honed his skills with the mentorship and friendship of his fellow comedians. Above all, he was a loving father and a partner who knew how to make the most of life whether by camping, going on the road for his comedy, playing drums in a rock-n-roll band, or simply by cherishing the laughter and comradery that always followed him wherever he went. His kindness and humor never ceased, despite his diagnosis, up until his last day.
Bob is survived by his soul mate, Sara and their faithful companions, Sunny and Eve; his daughter, Melissa (Dave) Lombard; his son, Luke Johnson; his grand-dogs, Simon, Leo, and Ladybug; his mother, Bonnie Johnson; his siblings, Neil (Kim) Johnson, Terry Johnson, Dave (Deb) Johnson, Spud (Kris) Johnson, and Carole (Dick) Krogstad. He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Johnson.
