Rita Mae Miller

January 24, 1927 — September 12, 2021

Rita Mae Miller, 94 of Fargo, ND passed to life eternal on Sunday, September 12, 2021. She was born to Stuart Archie and Marjorie Mae (Rhames) Sadler on January 24, 1927 in Regent, ND. Rita lived on the family farm, the oldest of the six siblings and attended school in town. She attended Jamestown College after high school. She married Lawrence Raymond Miller in Regent February 10, 1946. They moved to the eastern part of the state, finally settling in Fargo.

Rita worked for Standard Oil and then Sears Roebuck in the auditing department until her retirement. Even though she retired from the corporate world, Rita continued her many volunteer activities especially employing her auditing skills. She volunteered for the YWCA, AARP, Sunday School coordinator and teacher, RSVP, Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hospice of the Red River Valley, to name just a few. Rita was the 2002 North Dakota Voluntary Action Award recipient for ND Coordinators of Volunteer Services. In 2007 she received the state AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. It recognized her more than 22,000 volunteer hours over 20 years. Her volunteering did not stop with the reception of this award. She continued to volunteer until she lost her eyesight.

Rita loved to knit, crochet, and sew. She was a very competitive card and dominos player. Rita also did the daily crossword in the newspaper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister; Evelyn and brothers: Mervin and Lester. She is survived by her children: Terry (Tamara) Miller of Kansas City, MO and Colleen (Larry) Wadeson of Audubon, MN, grand children Ty (Andrea) Wadeson of West Fargo and Tawny (Shawn) Robinson of Mt. Orab, OH and great granddaughters Kaia and Mara Wadeson. She is also survived by her brothers Donald (Peggy) Sadler of Bismark, ND and Lavern (Wanda) Sadler of North Augusta, SC and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021, 10 o'clock am at First Presbyterian Church of Fargo. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Because of the increase in COVID the church requires masks for all people. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception will take place at The Edgewood Chalet, 19 Golf Course Ave. N., Fargo
