Richard Ardyn Smith, 74, Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born to Lyle and Myrtle Smith on May 14, 1946 in Sisseton, SD. He moved to Fargo for grades 5 and 6, then to Grandin, ND for grades 7 and 8, finally returning back to Fargo where he graduated from Fargo North High School in 1966.
He then joined the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Returning to Fargo, he worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital until he retired.
He married Charlene Dolliver on June 30, 1973 and had three children, Jerome, RaeAnne and Evelyn.
Richard loved hunting and fishing and listening to Country-Western and 60's music. He also liked to take pictures and to play cards. The last activity also allowed him to talk to people; he could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Richard is survived by his wife, Charlene; son, Jerome; daughters, RaeAnne and Evelyn; brother, Jerome of Little Falls, MN and sister, Holly (Mike) Cummings of Fargo.
Greeting him in heaven are his parents, Lyle and Myrtle and his sister, FaeLynne Hammer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
