Richard E. (Rick) Smith, 65, passed away June 16, 2019 at his home in Fargo, ND. Rick was born on March 20, 1954 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Elmer M. and Julia I. Smith.
Surviving are his brother, Roger A. Smith, of Gibson City, IL; four sisters, Karen (Steve) Seltveit of Morton, IL, Janet (Mel) Sagmo of Waubun, MN, Carol (Oliver) Hanson, of Mendota Heights, MN, Susan (Rich) Just, of Detroit Lakes, MN, and four nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles, and niece.
Rick was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1972 – 1974. He was retired and last employed by the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Rick was a kind-hearted man who loved his family. He lived for family get-togethers. He was loved and will be missed by his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. Rick had many friends, many of whom were veterans that he had met through his long affiliation with the VA in Fargo. His family is grateful for the kindness and care he was shown by the staff at the Fargo VA through the years.
Cremation rites were accorded by Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. A memorial is being planned for a later date.
